What is access management?

Access management is a technique used to increase roadway capacity and improve safety.  State and local governments have developed guidelines for access spacing designed to move traffic.  For example, local residential streets are allowed access and freeways are generally limited to other high volume roadways.  Some access management strategies include turn lanes, median treatments, frontage roads, and signal and intersection spacing.

How are traffic forecasts made?

Traffic forecasts for this project were developed using the Anoka County Travel Demand Model (TDM).  The TDM is computer model set up to replicate the real world transportation system.  Traffic forecasts are based on forecasted land use, demographics, and travel patterns unique to the region.  Once the model accurately replicates the existing conditions, projected land use changes are added to predict future travel patterns.  The Anoka County TDM includes seven county metropolitan area.
